The History Behind Vista Grande Horses
We realize that the arena horse must possess speed and athleticism. We feel that the introduction of the speed horse bloodlines enable our horses to compete at that higher level. I have always admired what the Hayes brothers and Hyde Merritt did by adding speed to their breeding programs. Our big blue stud, Blue Hancock Cowboy, is a true blue, stands 15.3, and is 22% Joe Hancock. He has consistently thrown a lot of color. With an Oklahoma Foundation Halter Championship and his AQHA Register of Merit in both heading and heeling, he has proven himself in the arena and the show ring. After seeing the foals he's produced for us, we're convinced we made a great addition to our barn. He is a show stopper. We said our goodbyes to the great stallion Ruano Rojo at age 28, after many years of outstanding production. There are three of his sons just in this area who have each won over $100,000 as exceptional rope horses. Rojo's daughters have always been some of our favorite broodmares. We'll miss him, but can still over you the great Ruano Rojo bloodlines. The backbone of our barn continues to be Blues Roan Hancock, or "Randy" as we call him. He consistently throws outstanding colts. He produced Laramie Blues, who, after being purchased at "Come To The Source," went on to become the 2000 FQHR National Grand Champion Yearling and Stallion in the same year! Sadly, he has since been put down due to an accident. Our youngest stallion, Wyo Blue Valentine, has his first 3 foals on the ground. There is nothing dull about the color of these foals. As promised last year, we knew his get would be "firecrackers." That's just the way they have turned out. We purchased this stallion as a baby from Randy Dunn. Another true blue, he is by Chip and Kathy's stallion Wyo Blue Bonnet. He is an outstanding young stallion. We have place him in partnership with athletic ability and good looks. Jody Cunningham is among the country's most popular horse clinicians. Wyo Blue Valentine is the star of Jody's video series, "Round Pen and Ground Work" and "Colt Starting." We were very proud to see him make his first appearance with Jody in the Checkerboard Arena at the 2003 USTRC finals in OKC. He will stand to a limited number of mares in 2005.
